Shigmo or Shishiritsava is a spring festival celebrated in Goa, where it is one of the major festivals of Hindu community. There are two variants of Shigmo festival that is Dhakto Shigmo (small Shigmo) and Vadlo Shigmo (big Shigmo). Dhakto Shigmo is generally celebrated in the rural areas while Vadlo Shigmo is celebrated in urban areas.

It begins some five days before the full moon day of the Indian lunar month of Phalguna and ends on the full moon day. It is considered mainly as a festival of folk songs and folk dances. It consist of 5 days and on the first day, the village deity is bathed and dressed. After the offering of food, a celebration is held near the temple as well as the whole village. The festival of Shigmo is also known as the festival of colours and this festival is celebrated with an great joy and enthusiasm by the villagers of Carambolim and across all the villages in Goa.

JAGOR

The word 'Jagor' means keeping a night vigil to please the almighty or the protector of the village. Basically in this folk form, groups of devotees start trickling in around 9pm but the festival starts only late at night. The performances begin after the seeking of blessings. First, there is a torch light procession called 'Suari' , where the torches are created using dry palm leaves.

The procession moves towards the specific spot called 'Mand' amidst the beats of the dhol and cymbals. Some believed that torches became part of this procession in the olden days before street lights were installed so that revelers could see in the night. Members of the suari procession, which consists of 20 to 30 boys and men gather on the stage to dance. This folk form consist of all traditional and rituals songs related to Gods and Goddesses, village deity etc. The men dress up in different attires and show up their performance. This festival of Zagor is celebrated till today in the month of May in Carambolim village.

DHENLO

Goa's agricultural communities celebrates Dhenlo festival fervor by performing folk dances and reciting folk songs. Dhenlo festival in Goa is celebrated on the second day of Diwali. It is prevalent in the talukas of Tiswadi, Sattari, Bicholim and Ponda. Dhenlo is celebrated in the honor of Lord Krishna who protected the cattles and also to protect the village from evil spirits.

Most of the people from Carambolim village celebrates this festival of joy with great enthusiasm and enjoyment. Gorvancho Padvo and Dhenlo has also become rare but some parts of Goa have still preserved this tradition and the rich culture of humanity.
