Folk dances practised in the Village

 Hello Everyone! I'm here again with my Third amazing and interesting post. This post will tell you about the folk dances that are practiced in the Carambolim village.

Goan culture is blessed with an amazing folk forms and dances. So here are some folk form that are performed in the the village till today.

DHALO 





 The Folk form of Goa which is Dhalo is performed in the village of Carambolim till today. It is one of the most popular rural dance of Goa. DHALO is performed by women folk on the moonlight night of the Hindu 'Pausha' month. This dance is performed during the week-long festivities are held at night time. The main deities propitiated on the occasion are the Mother Earth and Sylvan deity, who are supposed to protect their households. The songs are in Konkani and Marathi. In this folk form womens assemble in two straight lines facing each other after their dinner at a pre selected specific spot called 'Mand'.

 The two rows of women confront each other by prancing forward and backward while singing the stories of their life and the contemporary society. The songs cover very strong religious and social themes. The festival of Dhalo goes on every night for 5 days. On the concluding day, womens sport all sorts of fancy dresses and even caricature men folk.


FUGDI. 



In Carambolim the folk dance of Fugdi is performed during Dhalo that is held for 5 days. Fugdi is a group dance for women, with two major variations as danced in a circle or by rows of women dancers. In this folk form a few fixed steps, hand gestures and hand lamps are the elements. No instrument or musical accompaniment is found with the dance, but the special Fugdi songs are innumerable and the hands of the folk dancers becomes the musical instruments by clamping their hands on the beats of traditional and ritual songs. The songs might be about Puranic stories, family life, rivalries or people. Fugdis of different forms are danced by women in festivals like Dhalo or Ganesh Chaturthi .

There are altogether Twenty seven types of Fugdi that are been found and performed in Goa. Most of the forms of Fugdi is being practiced by the women in festive season of Dhalo and Ganesh Chaturthi.
